- The College Library is situated in the 3rd Floor of the old building with a beautiful overview of the Hooghly river and Dakshineswar Temple. This Library was established in the year 1927 and has a rare book section of invaluable books.
- The college has a Library Advisory Committee which considers the development proposals of the library and budget allocations and policy decisions. It also provides directions for a structured and balanced growth of the library and to provide improved facilities and innovative services. Allocation and utilization of funds and introduction of developmental programs and requirements of the users are addressed and approved by the Library Advisory Committee. The Library Advisory Committee makes sincere efforts to mobilize resources from the donors and philanthropists.
- Presently, the total number of books in the Library is 23,938 and every year there is a fresh purchase of books from the UGC grants. The Library remains open on all days except on holidays and Sundays. There is a duly constituted Library Committee.
- All books have been manually catalogued in the library according to the latest version of cataloguing. The library catalogue is being wholly computerized. The library infrastructure has also been revamped with more organised racks, proper seating arrangements and improved toilet/drinking water facilities. Each department is upgrading their seminar library with addition of new books and journals.
Some salient features & various support facilities available in the library:
- The college Library, a "Knowledge Centre" for accessibility, has been developing on modern lines as a prominent ‘Learning Resource Centre’.
- Library provides open access facilities which help easy access and use of library as a Learning Resource.
- Library is kept open to authorized members and entry/access is checked with user ID cards.
- All the students, teachers and officials of the university are given ID cards and borrowers card for having direct access to library.
- Complete Accession Numbering System & Cataloguing of all books and journals and user friendly Multi-Digit Alpha Numeric Decimal based numbering system according to the latest 22nd edition of
- Extension of Library building for book stacking purpose.
- The Library has a collection of rare books are stored separately in closed access and are provided on demand.
- It also has Reference and Referral facility.
- Information on Competitive Examinations are the unique facilities forcareer planning and development programs.
- Library as a Learning Resource Centre with computer facilities having 2 Internet connected computer terminals provides access to e-material and resources.
- Library is now fully automated. The college is hoping to complete the automation after effective training to staff and students, process very soon.
- Local Area Network (LAN) using LIBSYS software has been procured for automating in-house activities and services of the library.
- Installed 5 computers for Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is made available to the users to identify the status of availability of documents in the library.
- Internet facility with 2 computer terminals.
- The Library has applied to avail the INFLIBNET connection.
- One photocopier and with printing facilities
- Indian journals are subscribed directly through authorized agencies/vendors. Books are procured from all over the country. Book sellers/Publishers are encouraged to send latest books on approval basis.
- Procurement procedures have been simplified to avoid delay. Budget allocation is made at the beginning of the academic year and effectively utilized by the departments.
- The library collection is quite systematic and procurements are made only on the recommendations of the different departments. The Finance & the library committee decides allocation of funds under various heads.
- The library ensures procurement of the latest and updated learning resources like books and journals by sending the latest catalogues, book reviews, flyers, paper clippings etc. to the Departments to facilitate procurement. The needs of the users and suggestions in the ‘suggestion box’ are attended on priority through telephonic orders.
- Display of new arrivals, exhibitions on special events, seminars/ workshops/ conferences and group discussions are arranged to encourage readers to use existing and new arrivals. The new additions to the library are informed to the Departments. Faculties are informed about the latest additions relating to their projects/thrust areas of research.
- The practice of "Demand slip" ensures the reader about the issue and availability of the book needed.
- The Library has a collection of rare books are stored separately in closed access and are provided on demand.
- The visitors of other institutions and agencies are also allowed access subjected to identity, scrutiny and permission.
- Regular watch and ward security staff monitor the proper control over the safety of library materials
- Sensitization, awareness, orientation programmes and short-term courses are to be organized to provide access and use of library materials and e-resources.
